Pedro Delgado Reveals Why the Tour de France ‘Has It Out’ for Primož Roglič
Pedro Delgado on Primož Roglič: ‘The Tour Doesn’t Seem to Love Him’
Primož Roglič was the first of the ‘big four’ Grand Tour specialists to announce his 2025 season plans, making headlines with his decision to target both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. Unlike his rivals, Roglič has yet to finalize his participation in the Vuelta a España, despite his strong connection to the race. Spanish cycling legend Pedro Delgado commented on Roglič’s approach, suggesting that while the Vuelta seems unlikely this year, the Slovenian’s adaptability leaves room for surprises.
“Logically, he won’t be at the Vuelta, but he understands that the season is long. He’s very good at adapting, and I believe he’s keeping his options open,” Delgado told *CyclingNews*.
Roglič’s 2025 campaign will kick off at the Volta ao Algarve, followed by the Volta a Catalunya in the spring. His main focus will then shift to the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, where he aims to claim another Grand Tour victory while also attempting to conquer the elusive Tour de France, a race he hasn’t finished since 2020.
The Tour has been particularly harsh on the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe rider, with multiple crashes derailing his efforts. However, these setbacks have paved the way for his successes at the Vuelta a España. Despite his struggles, the Tour holds a unique allure for Roglič as the only Grand Tour he hasn’t won.
“Roglič is determined to succeed in the Tour. He’s faced numerous challenges there, and ideally, he would have contended for it when he was a younger racer,” Delgado remarked. “He’s had terrible luck at the Tour, almost as if the race doesn’t love him. Moreover, Vingegaard and Pogačar currently have the upper hand in that competition. But with his pride and fighting spirit, Roglič is someone you can never count out,” Delgado concluded.
The 2025 season promises to be a pivotal one for Roglič as he chases the Tour de France crown, hoping to overturn his fortunes in cycling’s most prestigious race.
