At the 2024 World Championships in Zürich, Slovenia boasts two of the top contenders for victory: Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic. The big question is, who will lead the Slovenian team?

Tadej Pogacar seems like the obvious choice, having had an extraordinary season in 2024, winning both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, and recently securing a victory at the GP Montreal just before the World Championships. However, Roglic, who claimed the Vuelta a España title just weeks ago, is also a strong contender for the prestigious Rainbow Jersey.

In an interview with the Slovenian newspaper *Delo*, Roglic was asked whether he would take on a leadership role for the team or play a more supportive role to his younger compatriot. Roglic, known for his calm demeanor, responded, “I can’t make any predictions.”

Unlike Pogacar, Roglic has two goals for the World Championships: competing in both the men’s elite individual time trial and the road race. “The courses – both the time trial and the road race – suit me,” Roglic said with confidence, expressing optimism about his chances.

Roglic hasn’t competed for the Rainbow Jersey since 2021 in Belgium, and winning the world title would be a significant addition to his already impressive career. With his age and opportunities running out, a dual-leadership strategy with Pogacar could boost his chances, allowing the four-time Vuelta champion to potentially catch the competition off guard.
