Seahawks rookie Byron Murphy II signs contract on first day
The first draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks is the first to sign a rookie contract.
The organisation declared on Friday that defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, the 16th overall pick this year, had consented to the typical four-year deal (which includes a fifth-year option) for first-round selections. After the rookie minicamp practice on Friday, he signed his contract.
According to NFL source Tom Pelissero, Murphy has a $16,083,122 contract. The rookie salary scale was modified by the CBA in 2011, and since then, the process has generally gone smoothly. Draft positions set the terms of contracts, leaving as little room for negotiation as possible.
Devon Witherspoon, the final rookie from the 2023 class to earn a contract, did cause the Seahawks some minor problems during the previous campaign. The timing of his signing bonus payments caused a little delay. In general, teams would rather postpone those signing bonuses till later in life.
