Robert Parish Fires Back at Dennis Rodman for criticising Larry Bird
In a recent interview, NBA legend Robert Parish responded forcefully to Dennis Rodman’s disparaging remarks about Larry Bird. Rodman had questioned Bird’s talent, suggesting that the Boston Celtics’ icon would be “just another good player” if he were Black. Parish, who played alongside Bird during the Celtics’ 1980s dominance, found these comments disrespectful and baseless.
“Rodman needs to remember who he’s talking about,” Parish asserted. “Larry was one of the hardest workers and smartest players the game has ever seen. His race had nothing to do with his greatness. Bird’s skills, dedication, and competitive spirit set him apart. He could shoot, pass, and defend with the best, and he had an incredible basketball IQ. Larry earned his place in the Hall of Fame through talent and hard work, not because of the color of his skin.”
Parish emphasized Bird’s three consecutive MVP awards, three NBA championships, and numerous All-Star appearances as evidence of his prowess. He also pointed out Bird’s clutch performances and leadership on and off the court, which commanded respect from teammates and opponents alike.
“Larry faced the best and beat the best,” Parish continued. “Rodman’s comments are not just an insult to Bird but to the entire Celtics legacy. We thrived on mutual respect and understanding, and anyone who diminishes Bird’s contributions is either misinformed or deliberately stirring controversy. Bird’s legacy speaks for itself, and no amount of trash talk can diminish that.”
