Rumors Fly: Alec Bohm’s Shocking Departure Announcement
Rumors are circulating that the Philadelphia Phillies and infielder Alec Bohm have not reached an agreement before the arbitration deadline, leading both parties to exchange figures for a one-year deal in 2024. Despite the impasse, there is still a window for negotiations before a potential arbitration hearing later this offseason in Arizona.
According to reports, Bohm is seeking $4 million, while the Phillies have countered with an offer of $3.4 million. This marks Bohm’s first year of arbitration, with two more years remaining before he hits free agency after the 2026 season.
Bohm had a solid performance in 2023, alternating between both corner infield positions due to injuries. He posted a .274/.327/.437/.765 slash line and hit a career-high 20 home runs while driving in 97 RBIs, also a career best. With Bryce Harper expected to move to first base full-time, Bohm is likely to return to his regular position at third base in 2024.
While the Phillies successfully negotiated deals with their other arbitration-eligible players, including pitchers Ranger Suárez, Jeff Hoffman, and Gregory Soto, as well as infielder Edmundo Sosa, Bohm’s situation remains unresolved. The Phillies had previously agreed to terms with outfielder Jake Cave, pitcher Dylan Covey, and catcher Garrett Stubbs.
The ongoing negotiations with Bohm are closely watched, as his return to third base is anticipated to be a key factor for the Phillies in the upcoming season.
