THE WORLD ANTIDOPING AGENCY FILES COMPLIANCE CASES AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA, RUSSIA
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed two compliance cases with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against Russia and South Africa’s national anti-doping organizations (NADO).
WADA agreed in September to declare both NADOs non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code due to their respective national anti-doping legislation being in conflict with the Code.
South Africa’s sanctions are new, whereas Russia’s anti-doping agency has been noncompliant since December 2020.
Both NADOs denied WADA’s allegations of noncompliance in October, and WADA has since filed an arbitration request with the CAS.
The consequences of non-compliance include the inability to host major events and the inability to use the national flag at the Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships, or continental or regional Games.
