Thierry Henry issued a passionate transfer request for Kylian Mbappe amid Arsenal and Chelsea interest.
Thierry Henry has urged Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG until the end of the season, amid reports of a January transfer window exit. Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the forward, with Real Madrid being the frontrunners.
However, the Frenchman’s future in the capital is uncertain, as his contract is coming to an end after a summer saga. Mbappe’s contract extension until 2025 was revealed earlier this year, with the player having the option to extend it by one year.
When the time came to activate that clause, he did not, prompting PSG to press for a resolution in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer. Despite a world record bid from Saudi Arabia being entertained, an ultimatum of a new deal or exit was proposed, with neither coming to fruition.
The pressure mounted as Mbappe began training away from the first-team and missed the squad’s pre-season tour of Japan. They eventually gave in and reintroduced him after the first game of the season, hoping he would make an impact
Since then, the story has been relatively quiet, with no apparent progress on a new contract, leaving the door open to a pre-contract discussion abroad in January or even a permanent deal elsewhere. It remains to be seen where he will end up, but there have been numerous connections.
Arsenal’s pursuit of the Premier League title may necessitate a market raid to add significant strength to their squad for the upcoming challenge. Meanwhile, Chelsea is no stranger to investing heavily under new ownership, especially when star power is required.
Former Arsenal star Henry, on the other hand, has urged Mbappe to finish the season with PSG before making a decision on his future. “If I’m Kylian Mbappe, I’m not going,” he said on CBS Sports. You want to complete what you started. What makes you want to leave?
“You must still win the league.” You have to understand that he adores PSG. He adores his club, he was born there… I want him to stick around until the end.”
