Tottenham suffer another injury setback after a £75 million duo is ruled out
Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a new injury concern ahead of their match against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Spurs were defeated 2-1 by West Ham United in the Premier League last time out and will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak. However, there are concerns about the fitness of top scorer Son Heung-Min, who took a knock against The Hammers on Thursday night.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said after the game, “Yeah, we’ll see how Sonny is.” He was a little sore after the game; we’ll see what the outcome is on Sunday.”Apart from Sonny, nothing appears to be too serious [from the West Ham defeat].”
With Son doubtful for the game against Newcastle, Spurs will be without £40 million summer signing James Maddison, who is recovering from an ankle injury. Tottenham’s injury list also includes Micky van de Ven, Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, Eric Dier, and Alfie Whiteman.
Newcastle also has a number of injury concerns heading into the game, with at least 13 players listed as doubtful or unavailable to play. Jamaal Lascelles suffered a dead leg in United’s 3-0 defeat at Everton on Thursday, and head coach Eddie Howe is unsure whether the captain will play on Sunday.
Howe is hoping to welcome back some injured players this weekend, with Sean Longstaff, Sven Botman, and Joe Willock all close to returning, but the Newcastle manager says there are ‘no guarantees’ his squad will be bolstered.
