Vinicius Jr left out of Brazil’s World Cup Qualifier vs Argentina Due To Injury
Brazilian attacker Vinicius Junior will miss Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Argentina due to a thigh injury, according to national team officials, after limping off against Colombia. The 23-year-old Real Madrid star “underwent imaging exams that confirmed an injury to his posterior left thigh muscle,” according to a statement issued by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on Friday. Vinicius, a key component of Brazil’s attacking arsenal, has been ruled out of next week’s match in Rio de Janeiro against archrivals and 2022 World Cup champions Argentina.
Vinicius had previously stated that his chances of playing against Argentina were slim.
“Based on what the doctors have told me, it will be a bit difficult,” he said after Brazil lost 2-1 to Colombia on Thursday in Barranquilla.
Vinicius left the field in the 27th minute of Colombia’s World Cup qualifier, with his team leading 1-0.
“I believe it is the same injury as before.” “I had a pain in the back of my thigh,” he explained.
The Brazilian star was sidelined for a month after injuring his right thigh in a Real Madrid league match at the end of August.
In September, he missed Brazil’s first two South American qualifying matches against Bolivia and Peru.
On Tuesday, Brazil will face Argentina, who leads the qualification standings, at Rio’s Maracana Stadium.
The hosts, who are currently fifth in the table, are already missing goalkeeper Ederson, defender Danilo, midfielder and captain Casemiro, and star attacker Neymar due to injury.
