Erik ten Hag’s post-defeat message to Manchester United players in the locker room
Man United’s struggles continue in the Champions League, with three losses in four group games. Another defeat, this time against Galatasaray, would eliminate them from the competition. Despite facing a ninth loss of the season, manager Erik ten Hag remains optimistic about the team’s fortunes.
In a dramatic Champions League group stage match, United suffered a 4-3 loss to Copenhagen after initially leading 2-0 and 3-2. This defeat places them at the bottom of Group A, and if they fail to secure a win against Galatasaray in three weeks, they will exit the Champions League.
United displayed excellence until Marcus Rashford’s 42nd-minute red card, regaining the lead with 10 men through Bruno Fernandes in the second half. However, Copenhagen equalized in the 83rd minute, and 17-year-old Roony Bardghji secured the winning goal four minutes later. Despite a commendable performance for much of the contest, United left without any points.
Ten Hag expressed disappointment, emphasizing the team’s resilience and belief in progressing to the last 16. He acknowledged the challenges faced throughout the season, with numerous decisions and setbacks, including injuries. While admitting that mistakes occurred, Ten Hag highlighted the positive aspects, noting that even with 10 men, United dictated the game and played well.
The manager praised the team’s attitude, unity, and fighting spirit, refraining from criticizing them despite the disappointing outcome. When a Danish journalist suggested the result was “unfair,” Ten Hag agreed, pointing out the early dominance and lead United had before the red card altered the course of the game, leading to their disappointment.
