Will Eli Tomac Make a Triumphant Return in the 2025 Supercross Championship? “I’ve done some training and testing at both the ranch…”
Eli Tomac Reflects on Staying for His 15th Season in the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship
Last August, veteran Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider Eli Tomac opened up about his decision to continue racing for another year in the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.
“I’m really pleased with how long I’ve lasted,” Tomac said, as he prepares for what will be his 15th consecutive season when the gate drops at Angel Stadium this Saturday in Orange County, California. “Honestly, I never thought I’d still be racing past 30. You have to do what you love, and I’ve always told myself that as long as I’m competitive, I’ll keep going. It’s a bit shocking how quickly 15 years have flown by, but it’s been an incredible journey.”
Now 31, Tomac has been fine-tuning his preparations for the 2025 season at high altitudes at the Flying T Ranch in Cortez, Colorado, as well as at the 94-acre Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing facility in Cairo, Georgia.
“I’ve done some training and testing at both the ranch and in Georgia before,” the two-time 450SX champion shared about his dual-location training this winter. “This year, I spent more time in Florida and at Star Racing’s facility. Compared to last year, I’ve been here longer this offseason. We have excellent tracks and testing setups here, which have been crucial for getting ready for the season. It’s been great working with the team, and I’m feeling ready for the races to start soon.”
Reflecting on his upcoming return to Angel Stadium, Tomac spoke about the emotions tied to the iconic venue.
“Angel Stadium sneaks up on you,” Tomac said with a smile. “But it’s amazing. There’s nothing like racing, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve had a blast at some off-season races, and suddenly we’re here at Anaheim 1. It’s crazy how fast it comes around. I’ve been enjoying it and staying healthy, so I want to keep my focus and momentum.”
Tomac, who won his first AMA Pro Racing event at the 2010 Hangtown National, remains driven by his love for the sport.
“I still have a passion for racing,” he said. “I’m not over it yet. Competing and pushing myself to improve are what keep me motivated.”
Looking back at last season, Tomac acknowledged the challenges he faced after recovering from an injury.
“Of course, I wanted more wins last year. Coming back from that injury was tougher than I thought. You think you’re fully healed, but it takes longer than expected to get back to 100%. Once I was fully recovered, I realized how important that last bit of recovery is, especially at this level. I might not have been as prepared as I should have been, and that affected my results.”
Tomac anticipates fierce competition in the 2025 season, noting the depth of talent in the field.
“Riders are staying in the game longer, and the level of competition is higher,” he explained. “It’s an exciting time for supercross fans. Can I win? I think I can. Jett Lawrence is the defending champion, so he’s the one to beat, but I’ll be in the mix.”
As Tomac approaches the end of his career, he has grown to appreciate the experiences and victories even more.
“It’s great to be here. As you get older, you appreciate the fans and the places you race. Wins become more meaningful, especially when you’ve struggled or faced injuries. That’s why we race—for those victories.”
With Monster Energy Star Yamaha behind him, Tomac is ready to make the most of his fourth season with the team.
“It’s been a great partnership with Star Yamaha. We’ve had some amazing races and seasons, and I’m looking forward to 2025.”
As he prepares for what will be his final season, Tomac reflects on his career with gratitude.
“I have to pinch myself when I think about what I’ve accomplished. It’s been a wild ride.”
Tomac is determined to give his all in his last season and savor every moment.
“Yeah, this is the last one,” he said. “I’m going to leave it all on the track and enjoy every moment along the way.”
