You Still Look Like Sin in Sunglasses”: Lenny Kravitz Shares Wildest Fan Moment
Lenny Kravitz Opens Up About His Favorite Part of Fame: Meeting Fans—And That One Time in a Grocery Store
“If there’s one thing that keeps me grounded, it’s the fans.”
In a recent candid interview, rock icon Lenny Kravitz gave fans a rare peek behind the sunglasses, opening up about one of the parts of stardom he values most: interacting with the people who have supported him through four decades of music, fashion, and unforgettable live performances.
“I’ve never taken for granted what I do,” Kravitz said. “But what really keeps it real for me are the moments when I meet someone and they tell me how one of my songs carried them through something—good or bad. That’s the real payoff.”
Kravitz, known for hits like “Fly Away” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” has always maintained a certain rock god mystique. But he insists that when it comes to his fans, he drops all pretense. “It’s not about ego. It’s about connection. Whether it’s someone who grew up on my music or a kid just discovering me through their parents—those interactions fuel me.”
One of the most memorable fan encounters, Kravitz recalled with a laugh, happened not backstage or at a red carpet event, but in a Whole Foods.
“I was grabbing some almond milk and kale, doing the usual,” he said. “And this woman—probably in her 60s—comes up to me, looks me straight in the eye, and says, ‘You’re Lenny Kravitz, right? You still look like sin in sunglasses.’ I had no idea what to say!” He chuckled. “She then pulled out a vintage vinyl copy of Let Love Rule from her tote bag. In a grocery store. Who carries records to buy groceries?”
He signed it, of course.
“I love that energy,” he added. “The randomness of it, the love, the humor. People feel like they know me—and in a way, they do. My music is personal. It’s always been a mirror of my life.”
Kravitz also noted how the digital age hasn’t dulled his appetite for in-person connection. “I appreciate the DMs, the messages, but nothing beats looking someone in the eye and feeling that human moment.”
As he continues touring internationally and preparing new material—he recently hinted at a possible return to his funk-rock roots—Kravitz says the fan stories stay with him longer than any chart position.
“I’ve had fans tell me they walked down the aisle to Again, others who said Believe helped them through a tough illness. That’s when you realize music isn’t just entertainment—it’s medicine.”
And in case you’re wondering—yes, he still shops at Whole Foods. Just maybe with a Sharpie in his pocket now.
